Academic Support
The Teaching Assistant supports the Class Teacher in delivering an engaging and age-appropriate Early Years curriculum. This includes working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, preparing materials for lessons, and assisting with the observation and assessment of student progress.
Caretaking and Supervision
They help ensure the safety and well-being of students by supervising them during class activities, playtime, and transitions. The assistant also supports positive behavior management and attends to children’s basic needs such as dressing, toileting, and feeding, while ensuring inclusive support for students with special needs.
Classroom Management and Organization
The role involves helping to maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment. This includes assisting in the preparation of learning materials, classroom displays, and maintaining accurate records related to attendance, student performance, and incidents.
Communication and Collaboration
The Teaching Assistant works closely with the Class Teacher, Early Years Head, and other staff members to ensure a cohesive approach to education. They also support communication with parents, provide student updates when needed, and participate in meetings, training, and school events.
Professional Conduct
They are expected to uphold all school policies, including those on child protection, health and safety, and equality. The assistant must maintain professionalism through confidentiality, punctuality, and reliability, while contributing positively to the overall school community.
